There are many different causes of TMD, some of which are controllable. TMD can be genetic; it is possible that another family member has it and you inherited that from them. TMD can also stem from habits that you may not realize are affecting your health, habits such as grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw. Without realizing, clenching your jaw and/or grinding your teeth can wear down your teeth, making them become sensitive.
